Beautiful, well-groomed feet for spring
Spring has begun. Before you know it, you’ll be putting your feet back in flip flops and sandals. In the winter, you may have paid less attention to your feet, which can leave them feeling drier and rougher. With these five tips you will have beautiful, well-groomed feet again and you will be ready for spring!
1. Take a foot bath every now and then
After a busy day, long walk or intensive training, it can be wonderful to take a foot bath. Your feet and the rest of your body are completely relaxed.
If you want to take good care of your feet, a bath is also an ideal place to start. Dry them well afterwards, also between your toes. The warm water will soften your skin, making corns easier to treat and giving you a good cut of your toenails. After this you can exfoliate and rub your feet.
2. Cut your toenails straight
After a foot bath or warm shower, it is best to trim your toenails immediately. They are now very soft. Loosen your cuticles with a cuticle pusher and then cut your nails straight, without corners. This way you prevent ingrown toenails. You can do this with nail scissors or special clippers.
3. Exfoliate your feet and remove calluses
Do you want soft and beautiful feet? You can achieve this with a mild scrub cream: it removes dead skin cells and calluses. There are brands that sell special foot scrubs, even specifically aimed at removing calluses. If you suffer from stubborn calluses, you can also use a callus file after scrubbing.
4. Apply a moisturizing cream
Dry feet can feel uncomfortable. If you rub them with a nourishing, moisturizing cream, the skin will be soft and supple again. You also immediately tackle dry fissures: cracks or tears in the skin of the feet that are usually caused by dry skin. This allows the skin to bend smoothly again and fissures can close again. It is advisable to rub your feet regularly, especially if you often suffer from cracks.
5. Treat Fungal Nails
Fungal nails can not only seriously disfigure your feet, they are also contagious. If you don’t do anything about it, the infection can even spread from the nail to the nail matrix (under the nail). You may never be able to get rid of it in this case. Enough reasons to do something about it. Fortunately, you can often combat nail fungus well with an antifungal agent, for example in the form of an ointment or cream. You can buy these products at the drugstore or pharmacy.
It is not necessary to remove the fungal nail. Is the nail deformed? Then you can touch it up with a pumice stone or file. After the care, your fungal nail is not immediately completely cured. You have to wait for the nail to grow out, which can take months. So keep taking good care of your feet and nails on a regular basis.
