Peugeot is no longer a partner of the Roland-Garros tennis tournament, a collaboration begun in 1984 which resulted in numerous special series for the lion manufacturer. Renault, which withdrew from the Cannes Film Festival, will replace him.
After thirty-eight years of collaboration, Peugeot withdraws. The manufacturer is no longer an official partner of the Roland-Garros tennis tournament. The association between the manufacturer with the lion and the famous Parisian competition began in 1984. The brand then took up residence in the VIP village of the tournament. Five years later, it provided a fleet of official vehicles and simultaneously launched a special series in its range. This approach continued until the 2021 edition of the event. But times are changing, and Peugeot is no longer on the list of tournament partners.
Three decades of Peugeot special series
The first Peugeot available in a Roland-Garros edition was the 205, in 1989. Recognizable by its metallic dark green body colour, it was more upscale with its alloy rims, sunroof and semi-leather upholstery. The following year, its convertible version was entitled to the same treatment with a limited series of 1,000 copies. Starting with the 206 Roland-Garros in 1999, the upholstery became entirely leather.
In 2004, Peugeot offered its special series of 307 SW in Roland-Garros green, but also in metallic light grey. In 2008, green was abandoned in favor of grey. From the 208 of 2014, after a few tests with black in particular, the manufacturer finally adopts a white contrasted by some orange details (mirrors, seat belts, etc.) evoking clay. The special series saga ended in 2018 with the 108, but Peugeot remained a partner of the sporting event until last year. According to concordant sources in the sports world, Peugeot would also end its collaboration with Novak Djokovic. In addition to a reduced interest in terms of image due to the brand’s withdrawal from Roland-Garros, this decision would be motivated by the controversy aroused by the world number 2 around the vaccination against covid-19.

Peugeot out*, Renault goes to the net?
In this place, Peugeot will be replaced by its eternal rival, Renault. The diamond brand has recently terminated its forty-year-old association with the Cannes Film Festival, where its place at the foot of the red carpet will be taken over by BMW from this year. She has set her sights on the French Open tennis tournament to maintain a presence at a prestigious tricolor event with global reach. This new association should be formalized shortly, the Roland-Garros 2022 tournament to take place from May 16 to June 5.
