Microsoft is currently testing a new version of Windows 11 and the Media Player, which will allow users to rip content from CDs.
That functionality arrives with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25158 and is available to testers within the Insiders group’s Dev channel since this weekend.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has given Windows 11 users features that have something to do with CDs. Previously, the Media Player (again) was given the option to play music from those discs.
Rip music on Windows 11
But since last weekend it is again possible to rip CDs as a tester. The program supports a number of formats that you can save: AAC, WMA, FLAC and ALAC.
It is perhaps not surprising that Microsoft is putting a renewed focus on the Media Player. This is also the program that starts Windows 11 when you start a purchased movie or series on your PC.
Of course, it is impossible to say for sure whether this particular option will come to all users. Microsoft may decide to remove the feature before the company launches it.
If CD ripping is actually rolled out to users, that would be great; unfortunately it is not yet possible to say exactly when that will happen.
