Microsoft announces that Windows 11 will officially get support for third-party widgets later this year.
The American company announced this during its annual Build conference for developers. The widgets then serve as a kind of companion for win32 and PWA apps.
Currently, you can only use widgets from Microsoft apps. The selection is fairly limited, with options for Outlook and To Do, among others.
Widgets on Windows 11
In addition, there are some other widgets, which are powered by web technology. When you enable such a widget, you will, for example, see the weather. And otherwise the most recent news or developments from the entertainment industry.
So there is room for improvement and Microsoft knows that. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t provide details about what kind of widgets we can expect in the future. But that might leave it to the creativity of developers on the platform.
An exact release date for the third-party widgets is also pending. Nevertheless, it will be a pleasant prospect for Windows 11 users.
