Which cars will be youngtimers in 2022?

The year is really drawing to a close, so it’s time to look ahead. Also next year a lot of cars will celebrate their fifteenth birthday. This makes them far from being an old-timer, but it does mean that they can call themselves young-timers in 2022. Time for a nice overview of cars that will be a lot cheaper for the business driver next year. Incidentally, there are a lot of other cars that will qualify for the young timer scheme from next year, but for this article we mainly list the coolest. Which nice cars will be youngtimers in 2022?

What is the young timer scheme?

The youngtimer scheme applies to business drivers. Anyone who leases a new car and also uses it privately pays an additional 22 percent of the catalog value. For electric cars, an addition of 16 percent will apply in 2022 up to a limit of 35,000 euros. For every cent above that, 22 percent must be paid. An exception to these rules applies to youngtimers. In 2022, the addition for youngtimers will still be 35 percent, but it will be calculated on the current value. The current market value of most youngtimers will be considerably lower than the catalog value of new cars. For the same (or less) money you can drive an older, but often more elaborately decorated car.

When is a car youngtimer?

That’s very simple. According to the regulations, as soon as a car is fifteen years old, it is a young timer. It concerns the year of manufacture of the car and not necessarily the year of introduction of a model. For example, one BMW 3-series E90 can be a youngtimer because it is fifteen years old, and the other not because it came from the factory a little later. That is why you sometimes see that of two identical cars, the older of the two is a bit more expensive, because it is more attractive to business drivers.

Which cars will be youngtimers in 2022?

Alpina B3

In 2007 the Alpina B3 came to accompany its diesel brother, the D3. Alpina took the rear-wheel drive 335i and increased the power to 360 hp and 500 Nm. The 0-100 time of all variants was just under 5 seconds. It came as a sedan, station wagon, coupe and convertible. The big disadvantage is that the B3 itself is relatively rare, let alone that you can easily find a copy that comes exactly from 2007 and is therefore a youngtimer in 2022. You may have to wait a year. One consolation: the BMW 3-series Convertible (E93) also came out in 2007.

Audi A5

This was a phenomenal period for Audi. Although the designs started to creep closer together, they were relatively simple but elegant designs. That means that you can still look great with the oldest Audi A5. Delivery of the Sportback and the Cabrio did not start until later, so for the youngtimer scheme in 2022 you can only choose the A5 coupé. For around 6,000 euros you already have one with a high mileage. Throw in another 5,000 euros and you should be able to find a decent one.

Audi R8

No introduction needed, right? The Audi R8 joined after a standing ovation I, Robot the silver screen straight out onto the street. The automatic versions of the first-generation R8 are the cheapest, with a purchase price of around 50,000 euros. They do exist, copies from 2007 with a manual gearbox, but they are a bit rarer and therefore about 20,000 euros more expensive. We would like to give you some color advice, but actually any factory color will look good on the Audi R8. Unfortunately, the R8 V10 is not yet a youngtimer.

Mercedes C class (W204)

If you want to drive a bit neatly for business, you may have to be a little careful with a white copy with slightly too thick rims. And don’t miss those with tinted headlights. Opt for a chic version in a modest color, and you have – just like with the A5 – a design that has stood the test of time well. In addition to the sedan, you can even opt for an Estate with the C-class of the W204. The following also applies here: do not shop too cheaply and look for a neat copy for around 10,000 euros.

Even the Nissan GT-R will be a youngtimer in 2022

If you are looking for a cheap youngtimer in 2022 to save on monthly costs, then a Nissan GT-R may not be the best option. He is nice. Deliveries of the Nissan GT-R started in 2007 and with a bit of searching you should be able to find one for around 50,000 euros. Of course you can easily double the price if you want to get more power from the V6. Your accountant probably knows how to save an upgrade of the turbos on the business. If you keep it standard, you will still drive with 485 hp on all wheels.

Mini Clubman

If you don’t really want to propagate in your Vinex neighborhood that you drive an old box because of the young timer scheme, then you should choose a Mini. No one can tell those things apart and everyone will think you bought a new Clubman. By the way, nothing wrong with that, because all Minis are fun to drive. In 2007 Mini came up with the Clubman, which you can recognize by its long roof and a crazy extra door on the right. For about 6,000 euros you do have a copy that can be driven as a youngtimer in 2022.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (a little bit youngtimer in 2022)

You cannot tell this further, but you could also drive the Lancer Evolution X as a youngtimer. In America and Europe, the four-wheel drive only came out in 2008, but Japan got it a little earlier. That does mean that you have to import one with the steering wheel on the right side. Or else just wait a year before getting into your Lancer Evo youngtimer.

Honda Civic Type R

You should be able to find a 2007 Honda Civic Type R for around 10,000 euros. Then you have the FN2 generation with those characteristic triangle exhausts and the double rear window. And now that we google some pictures of the hatchback, we have to admit: quite a cool thing to see. Perhaps not quite the type of car that you are taken seriously in a business relationship.
