Choose healthy and win a cookbook
Without realizing it, you are taking in more salt than is good for you. Because everyday products contain more salt than you think. You often do not realize whether you are making a good or salty choice in the supermarket. Products that are too salty are often meat products, ready-to-eat meat substitutes, cheese, sauces, seasonings or processed meat. Fortunately, there are plenty of healthy and simple alternatives!
Natural chicken breast or marinated chicken strips?
People add only 20 percent of the salt consumed while cooking or at the table. 80 percent get people in through everyday products and dishes that you buy in a supermarket. For example, marinated chicken strips contain much more salt than natural chicken breast. While you can marinate chicken breast yourself simply and deliciously with lemon juice, garlic and thyme. Why is less salt necessary?
In the Netherlands, 12 percent of the population (more than 2 million people) has chronic kidney damage. Too much salt contributes to the development and worsening of this. The Dutch consume an average of 9 grams of salt daily instead of the maximum amount that is still healthy (6 grams per day). This amounts to 1 kg of salt per person too much annually! Approximately 85 percent of the Dutch still eat too much salt, but the majority do not take this into account (> 60 percent).

Less salt. Nice and healthy.
Fortunately, there are plenty of healthy and easy alternatives to everyday salty products. For example, top your sandwich with slices of mozzarella, together with tomato, basil, a dash of olive oil and ground pepper. Surprisingly tasteful. Or try preparing a sauce yourself in a salt-conscious way with fresh ingredients and season it with different seasonings such as vinegar, spices or acids. In the supermarket it pays to look at the labels of products. There are often huge differences in the salt content between different variants of the same product. For example, with ready-to-eat meat substitutes. For example, the salt content of vegetarian pieces varies between 0.39 and 1.46 grams per 100 grams. By choosing the least salty variant you are already taking a step in the right direction.
