This should make us feel guilty for not going jogging this summer. While many studies accuse the sedentary lifestyleto be responsible for all ailments (cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, hypertension and premature death).
Fortunately, a study by the American Cancer Society, a nonprofit organization specializing in the fight against cancer, the Cooper Institute and the University of Texas reassures sedentary people of all kinds by qualifying this very dark table: to be in good physical condition could limit the health risks of physical inactivity.
For the purposes of the study, the researchers analyzed the association between sedentary behavior, physical activity and metabolic markers of obesity in 1,304 men at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas between 1981 and 2012.
The results confirm the link between inactivity, high blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and a larger waistline. On the other hand, taking into account the physical condition of the participants, the only link established between inactivity and health corresponds to a higher ratio of triglycerides / LHD cholesterol (good cholesterol). A ratio that increases the risk of hypoglycemia.
Remember, however, that maintaining good physical shape normally goes hand in hand withregular physical exercise.
