Derek Warwick’s R5 Turbo 2
Among the model’s fanatics: Derek Warwick. The driver, hired by Renault F1 in 1984 and 1985, had a clause written down in his contract to have one. In April 1984, the builder gave him the keys to a red copy flanked by a “Derek Warwick” plaque on the dashboard. Chassis # 994 has since left the garage of the driver who won the 1992 24 Hours of Le Mans (with Peugeot).
Just over 130,000 km on the odometer
Between 1984 and 1992, the vehicle passed into the hands of 6 owners before a collector (Paul Constantine) bought it back as a company car and kept it for 20 years. He says he has driven it often, having it serviced regularly in a specialist Alpine garage in south London. The car then changed hands but has always been pampered by its new buyers. This R5 Turbo 2 now totals 131,351 km.
Auction on November 13
The experts at Silverstone Auctions, who are offering the copy for sale on November 13, estimate it between £ 65,000 (€ 77,000) and £ 75,000 (€ 89,000) excluding tax. Note that during its career, this R5 Turbo 2 has seen a few “competition” artifices including a roll bar, FIA tubs and additional Cibié headlamps. The owner accompanies the vehicle with many official documents including maintenance invoices. There are also parts. The original rims for example? The announcement does not specify …
