The mystery of the kiss
The kiss has captivated us for centuries. And still kissing is a mystery. Why are we doing it? Why is it so nice? What can go wrong and how do you do it best?
Kissing is one of the most intimate experiences you can have together. When done right, it produces an overwhelming feeling.
Upside down
Kissing actually turns the whole system upside down. Blood pressure rises, breathing speeds up and metabolism takes off. Salivary glands are racing, the heart rate shoots from seventy to one hundred beats per minute and the brain secretes endorphins, a stimulant. As a result, the pupils dilate, the skin tightens and a rosy feeling develops.
sniff
Kissing is universal. Everyone does it, but opinions about why we kiss are very divided. The ancient Roman writer Lucretius understood kissing as an attempt at literal fusion. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, had a more basic explanation. According to him, kissing was originally about food transfer.
In early human history, mothers would have fed their children, like birds, by mouth. Sigmund Freud applied the kiss to sex, a ‘maternal obsession’. Kissing was an egocentric tendency to return to the womb. With kissing people try to get into the security of another. Some anthropologists had a different opinion. According to them, in ancient times we sniffed each other like dogs, to greet each other. From that sniffing came the kiss.
Today’s experts follow the line of thought of both Jung and Freud and then end up at the mother’s breast. Kissing is said to result from sucking and licking the mother’s breast in early childhood. Erotic kissing is therefore a form of suckling. The pleasure it gives us has to do with love and familiarity.
love kiss
There are many different types of kissing. The meeting kiss or the friendship kiss are ‘business kisses’. They are the famous three kisses on the cheek when you greet someone or when you say goodbye to someone.
Love kisses are significantly different in nature. The French kiss, for example, where the tongues perform a kind of dance with each other. Then you still have the neck kiss or the biting kiss. Many women indicate that the neck is a favorite place to be kissed. And who doesn’t know the hickey, a kind of marking kiss for your partner.
Miss kissed
Kisses from hell are as widespread as kisses from heaven and you might just run into one. There are about ten of those fiasco kisses. The most gruesome species is the great big kiss, where one’s own tongue is lost in a gaping valley.
The dam break kiss is no fun either, it is accompanied by a tidal wave of saliva. And what about the propeller kiss, in which the tongue of the other person races through your oral cavity like a runaway mill blade? But the worst of all, of course, is the sewage kiss with the putrid fumes of the person who was so attractive just before.
kissing tips
In all cases: avoid unpleasant odors. Get into a comfortable position so you don’t get cramped and can keep kissing for longer. Also make use of other caresses while kissing. Stroking, stroking and massaging helps the kiss to become more intense.
Try out different ways. Don’t just spin your tongue in circles, experiment with tongue movements and speed. Teasing the other a bit by making very slow tongue movements, sometimes wants to flare up the passion.
Pay close attention to the reaction of your kissing partner. If you understand what the other person is responding to, you can respond to it. Last but not least: kissing is healthy! Research has shown that kissing helps against hay fever and has the effect of a rejuvenation cure. Your body cells get more oxygen through kissing and you burn extra calories. If that’s not a good excuse!
