Satay sauce from a packet contains an average of 2.4 grams of salt per ounce. The homemade version is a lot healthier in terms of salt content. And, importantly, the homemade version actually tastes much better!
Ingredients
-
200ml water
-
Pepper
-
half onion
-
2 tablespoons low-sodium peanut butter
-
3 to 4 tablespoons brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon (apple) syrup
-
teaspoon low-sodium sambal
-
Splash of low-sodium ketjap
Preparation
Peel the onion and cut it small. At the same time, boil the water. Add all ingredients and let it bubble gently while stirring.
This recipe contains about 39 milligrams of sodium per 100 milliliters. To calculate the salt content, you do the sodium content x 2.5. So in this case 39 x 2.5 = 97.5 milligrams or 0.0975 grams of salt.
Tip: If you find the sauce too thick, add a little water.
