So cute when he devours his toast of jam … full of sugars! The breakfasts of the youngest are often too rich in sugars. How to change these bad habits?
Less sugars, more fiber
The year begins, it is an opportunity to make good resolutions in the morning. The alarm clock rings, we find ourselves in front of our bowl of cereals, our industrial fruit juice and our jam toast, when it is not the spread. That sugar! In England, one in five children under the age of 11 is overweight. No wonder at this rate.
The rapid intake of sugars is tasty for the taste buds, but is absorbed so quickly in the blood that children are hungry from 10 a.m.. This often leads to snacking, early obesity and cavities.
A few ideas for a better start to the day
To have a stomach full of good things, prefer a fruit rather than a juice. Brick or even squeezed by hand, the juice is full of sugar. While crunching it, we also benefit from the fibers and the intake of rapid sugars is less violent for the body. Forget the fatty and sweet pastries ! Wholemeal bread or rusks are more nutritious and have a lower glycemic index. And don’t wrap it up under tons of jam!
Swap industrial cereals with dried fruits (hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds …) or with oatmeal. For protein and calcium intake, we can also add an egg or a dairy product (cheese, cow, goat or vegetable milk). This is enough to last without snacking until mealtime!
