People are more or less prone to bloating. Several foods should be avoided to suffer as little as possible.
- Bloating or flatulence is the accumulation of gas in the stomach and intestines.
- To avoid them, it is important to take the time to eat and chew your food well.
- Raw or cooked vegetables, sugar and white bread can amplify them. Conversely, other foods can relieve them such as fennel, turmeric or even ginger.
They are limited in duration but are very unpleasant… Bloating or flatulence correspond to the accumulation of gas in the stomach and intestines, causing swelling of the abdomen. Some people are particularly sensitive to it. Doctors usually recommend that they analyze their eating habits to determine what is causing bloating and therefore avoid these foods. Currently, there are no real drug solutions.
Raw or cooked vegetables
Certain foods are known to cause bloating. First of all, the raw vegetables which are not easy to digest and which irritate the intestines. However, you should not stop consuming them because these foods are rich in fiber and therefore very good for your health. The best way to prevent them from causing bloating is to peel them and cut them into small pieces to aid digestion.
As for vegetables, the list is long: broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, leeks, legumes (chickpeas, red beans, lentils), tomatoes, etc. But again, don’t stop eating it. Nutritionists recommend that patients peel and cook them. Thus, vegetables – and fruits, in compotes for example – will be easier to digest. The ideal is to always cook them without fat and then add some.
white bread
White bread is another enemy of people prone to bloating, as its flour is indigestible. Therefore, to accompany your meal, it is best to choose wholemeal bread.
Sugar
As for desserts, refined sugars promote intestinal inflammation, which can make your belly swell. Therefore, it is recommended not to abuse foods or drinks that contain too much sugar, such as cakes, chocolates, sodas, fruit juices and alcohol. Coffee should also be consumed in moderation.
The best allies against bloating
Certain foods are naturally anti-inflammatory and eating them can help relieve bloating. This is the case with certain herbal teas, fennel or marshmallow, for example. The same is true for oils, such as rapeseed or flax, because they are rich in omega 3, natural anti-inflammatories. Finally, turmeric, ginger, sprouted pumpkin seeds, raw onion or blackcurrant are also recommended to limit bloating.
Last advice to take care of your belly: avoid excess! Too much food is always harder to digest… and can cause bloating.
