One sleeps in his birth costume and the other prefers to sleep only in panties or with a nightgown on. Without clothes is preferred. Seven reasons why sleeping naked is healthier than in those old flannel pajamas.
Although sleeping naked is healthy, the vast majority of Dutch people wear nightwear, according to research by Noviodata on behalf of a manufacturer of bedding. For example, the majority of young people (35 percent) prefer to sleep in underwear. Pajamas or nightgowns are the most popular among the elderly at 36 percent. Men prefer underwear (37 percent) and women prefer pajamas or nightgowns (49 percent). 20 percent of people between the ages of 46 and 65 sleep naked, among young people between the ages of 18 and 25 this is the case for only 9 percent. Between the ages of 26 and 46, 18 percent sleep naked. Men (22 percent) also sleep naked more often than women (13 percent). Seven reasons to go to bed naked:
1. You sleep better
Without a nightgown or pajamas you won’t be bothered turning around at night. Moreover, you do not suffer from creeping nightgowns or trouser legs. This makes you feel freer and more relaxed. This makes you calmer and improves your sleep quality.
2. You cool down faster
By crawling naked in a cool bed, your body will get the lower temperature it needs to sleep well more quickly. Fun fact: naked sleepers are losers. Because you get colder, you also burn more calories while you sleep. Someone weighing 70 kilos normally burns about 500 kcal with eight hours of sleep. If you sleep naked, your body will automatically burn even more calories to get warm again. Count out your winnings!
3. You make more oxytocin
By crawling naked against your partner, you both make more of the hugging hormone oxytocin. This hormone is responsible for a feeling of intimacy and connection and gives your happiness a boost. In addition, oxytocin gives you confidence, makes you happy and helps you relax. Oxytocin also reduces stress and suppresses feelings of anxiety. The hormone also has a beneficial effect on blood pressure and the immune system.
4. You have more sex
According to British researchers, sleeping naked is good for your relationship, because it makes you want to make love more often. According to the researchers, naked sleepers are more satisfied with their sex lives than pajama wearers. And sex is of course very healthy: it helps to lower stress, relieves pain, strengthens your immune system and is good for your heart and blood vessels, among other things. Good lovemaking helps you sleep better and keeps you young and vital.
5. You are less likely to get vaginal infections
Bacteria love moist, warm places such as in boxer shorts or panties. Especially in the summer, your vagina quickly becomes a bit sweltering. Fungi and bacteria thrive on this. By sleeping naked, it stays cool around your vagina and you are less likely to suffer from a vaginal infection. Especially women who are sensitive to this would do well to take their pajamas off.
6. Improves your sperm quality
Testes hang outside the body for a reason: this keeps them at the right temperature, which is important for good sperm production. Pajamas or tight underwear can cause your testes to get too hot, which can make sperm quality worse and reduce sperm production. This is also the reason that as a man you should not always sit with your laptop on your lap: then your balls will get too hot.
7. It keeps you young
By sleeping naked, you slow down the aging process. By wearing nightwear, your body cools down less quickly, which inhibits the production of melatonin and growth hormones. Melatonin is not only a sleep hormone, but also a strong antioxidant that prevents cell damage. The more melatonin, the more beautiful the skin. Growth hormones repair body cells at night and ensure that your body ages less quickly.
