A diet friendly evening
You are planning to throw a party and that should of course be fun. But what do you do with the food now that you are just as conscious of your diet? This is how you organize a diet-friendly party!
Food, drink and fun are inextricably linked for most of us. It’s hard to break this. But with healthy alternatives, it really doesn’t have to be any less fun. The big advantage of organizing a party yourself is that you have the menu in your own hands. You decide what is on the table. Provide sufficient variety for your guests and make conscious choices for yourself.
Reception
Birthday? Passed? Many a party starts with coffee and cake. Nice of course, but that one calories do touch. Tip: instead of apple turnovers or mocha points, opt for a nice bowl with small cream puffs and/or brightly colored petit fours. Just as festive and it is much less heavy on the stomach. Also with your guests.
Appetizers
You can of course open a bag of peanuts. But you can also make containers with strips of bell pepper, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. Optionally with a dipping sauce (yogurt based) or hummus. Those snacks all contain less than 100 kilocalories. Presentation is everything. Get nice bowls and put them all together on a large plate, possibly supplemented with some cubes cheese, olives and sausage for the low-carb eaters.
Drinks
When it comes to drinking, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that sugary drinks like Baileys and sweet white wine are best avoided. Beer is also quite strong. Dry white wine, red wine and vodka are a thing more calorie friendly, as well as champagne. So every reason to open a bottle of bubbly.
Enjoy it slowly and alternate your glass of alcohol with a few glasses of water with a slice of lemon. That also looks very nice. You can dilute orange juice with half a glass of carbonated spring water, which also makes a difference.
Food
Does the drink get out of hand and everyone hangs out until dinner? No need to call the Chinese. How about a large pot of fresh soup? Soup warms the heart and fills the stomach. And with all that veggies in it, it’s also very healthy. Present your guests with crusty baguette with herb butter. You try to stay away from that yourself.
To enjoy
Organizing a party is a lot stress, but the result is usually the same. There is nothing more fun than having everyone having a good time. Of course it should also be fun for you. Being too strict with yourself usually backfires. If you can’t leave that bitterbal, take one instead of three. The most important thing is to enjoy what you do eat. After all, it’s a party.
