Eating organic: the acclaimed organic!
In 2010, 43% of French people bought organic products at least once a month, according to the latest CSA barometer for Agence BIO. Popular products? Foods that form the basis of a healthy diet such as fruits and vegetables (80%), dairy products (72%) and eggs (57%).
The health benefit: organic farming makes it possible to considerably limit the number of chemical residues which accumulate in our organism. And the French have understood this well since for 94% of consumers concerned, organic is indeed a solution to preserve their health, even before preserving the planet (86%). The environmental benefit: organic is a mode of production that respects the soil, natural cycles, more adapted local species, biodiversity. If the products are local, the energy to produce and transport them is limited.
Eating organic: let’s become locavores!
Since we’re talking about local products, let’s talk about locavores. This term refers to a person consuming food produced within a radius of 150 to 400 kilometers around their home. Marginal phenomenon? Not really ! The 1,000 AMAPs in France (Association for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture), which bring together local producers, now supply more than 250,000 people compared to 30,000 in 2007.
The health benefit: the products are seasonal, they contain fewer preservatives and the distribution channels are also shorter, there is less risk of accidental contamination.
The environmental benefit: the ecological cost induced by the travel of foodstuffs is reduced and traceability is controlled.
Eating organic: we go back to cooking
Today, you can make your own soda, take the time to make homemade mash or prepare baby’s soups. Proof of this is that a study carried out for appliance manufacturers shows that sales of small household appliances have increased. Thus, robots, blenders, choppers and juicers made the happiness of the French in 2010. For 94% of French people, homemade cooking is a source of pleasure and fulfillment.
