Few people do not dream of white teeth. Unfortunately, the effects of time also reflect on the brightness of a smile. The passing years have (among other things) the consequence a decrease in the layer of tooth enamelexplains Dr. Christophe Lequart, dental surgeon and national spokesperson for the UFSBD (French Union for Dental Oral Health).
Which implies the dentin is more visible. However, this dentin, located under the enamel, pulls more towards yellow than towards white. This explains the yellowing of the teeth. But it’s not just this factor. Food also comes into play.
The acidic foods consumed repeatedly can contribute to a reduction in the thickness of the enamel. And of course, so-called “tannic” foods. These are all those that consist of ingredients that will stain the teeth.
There are also some special cases. The professional swimmers for example. By dint of spending their days in swimming pools, the enamel of their teeth suffers from faster erosion than the average population. Result, teeth that yellow faster!
Another special category: that of people who eat a lot of products rich in lactic acid. This contributes to the dissolution of the enamel. Among these products: yogurts, fresh cheeses, sourdough bread, nuoc mam sauce, among other examples.
