Lose weight through food
Just imagine: you’re sitting on the couch, eating a bowl of deliciously sweet, juicy strawberries, and suddenly you’re a pound lighter. Some plums and pineapple after it and hop, another few ounces disappear. The secret? Negative calories.
Negative calories refer to foods that are so low in calories that the body consumes more energy for digestion than is contained in the food. An example of this is cold water. This contains no calories and puts the body to work to bring the water up to temperature. Certain types of vegetables and fruit would have this effect, for example:
- strawberries
- pineapple
- Apple
- blueberries
- cranberries
- raspberries
- grapefruit
- tangerine
- papaya
- plums
- endive
- asparagus
- aubergines
- beets
- celery
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- courgettes
- green cabbage
- radish
- salad
- green beans
- tomatoes
- root
Variation
Before you run to the greengrocer’s, it’s good to realize that variety is the magic word. It is never good to eat large amounts of the same thing. This certainly applies to fruit. Ever finish a kilo of plums? Then you know the result: diarrhea. And the acids in pineapple and grapefruit can be harmful to the stomach. But nothing else stands in the way of celery nibbling and berry candy our BMI give it a big push in the right direction. Or is it?
“Does not exist”
Unfortunately, the Nutrition Center makes short work of the negative calorie phenomenon. “A number of foods are claimed to contain ‘negative calories’. The digestion of these foods would require more energy than the energy they add to the body. This would mean that the weight decreases as more of these products are eaten. Energy is indeed needed to process food, but that amount is small compared to the energy that the food provides. Negative calories do not exist. If the weight decreases, it has other causes, such as changes in eating habits and more exercise.”
healthy slim
Unfortunate. It looked so beautiful, losing weight while eating. But that doesn’t mean we should ignore these fruits and vegetables. On the contrary, they are very healthy and fit perfectly into a balanced diet. Eating a lot of fruit and vegetables reduces the risk of heart and vascular disease, some species help in the fight against cancer or prevent blockage. Fruits and vegetables also help you maintain your weight. They are rich in fiber and they provide good stomach filling. The result is that you feel satisfied. In addition, they keep blood sugar levels low. So still slim and healthy. And that’s what we do it all for!
