Retirement time will ring in spring 2022 for the Renault Kadjar, launched in summer 2015. The compact SUV will give way to a second version that already dreams of doing battle with the Peugeot 3008. Beware of its style not very revolutionary, the Kadjar 2 will have other advantages.
[Mis à jour le 25/08/2021] Actively preparing its official presentation which will take place in spring 2022 then its commercial launch in the wake, in the summer, the second version of the Renault Kadjar completes its development on the Andalusian roads where it was flushed out. Obviously, the prototypes of the diamond compact SUV, known internally under the code HHN, circulating on the other side of the Pyrenees remain camouflaged.
But the protective layer has been lightened to the point that one can read the body shapes and the cutouts between the various bodywork elements fairly precisely. From images taken by our spy photographers which perfectly corroborate our exclusive illustrations, which delivered to you from last July the exact and final lines of the Renault Kadjar 2.

Kadjar 2: the hour of revenge has come
End of the soft shapes and soft lines of its predecessor, whose skin had to stick as closely as possible to that of the Nissan Qashqai 2. An aesthetic relationship which was also reflected in the glazing, identical for the two vehicles. No, the dress of the new Kadjar (internal code HHN) does not go all the way, taking over a large part of the Peugeot 3008 recipe : taut lines and sharp edges. Luca de Meo, the new Renault boss does not hide it, he intends to be inspired by the bestseller of the Lion to make the new Kadjar a cash machine.

The Renault Kadjar 2 will not be content to mimic the inclined quarter panel and the floating roof of its rival, or even its horizontal ribs capping the wings. Indeed, it sports at its ends the cosmetic gimmicks of the latest achievements of the diamond brand. The stern evokes, with an additional standard characterized by a light strip, that of its little brother Renault Captur 2 at the level of the hook-shaped lights. Note that the latter invest in the lower part of the tailgate, which stretches the lines and sits the car. Just below, the model is inspired by the Renault Talisman Estate. As you will have understood, in the absence of crazy originality, the Kadjar 2 relies on the consistency of the range, reassuring for the customer.
As for the bow, its side scoops in the shield give it a family resemblance with the newcomer in the SUV range. The resemblance at this level to the future Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric, expected in early 2022, is striking. It will indeed be a Mégane of a new kind that will appear at that time, leaving the world of compact sedans to invest the more promising one of leisure vehicles.
A high-tech interior
The exterior will therefore be neat and will give off a better perceived quality than the current model, but the new opus will especially dazzle the interior with “High technology on board”, in the words of Gilles Vidal. As in the Mégane E-Tech Electric, the dashboard will be distinguished by a large digital screen in one piece and in the shape of an L which will combine the instrumentation and the touch screen. The latter will integrate the new MyLink multimedia system, developed jointly with Google. A move upmarket which will also be reflected in the quality of the materials.
Gilles Vidal: Renault’s new asset?
For Kadjar 2, the target to shoot down will initially be the second generation Peugeot 3008. A model at the end of its life who, however, has not fallen asleep on its laurels. As proof, his mid-career restyling (January 2021) was really spectacular. We had never seen such a change of muzzle on a Peugeot. A major change, necessary to counter the wishes of newcomers.
Then, the Renault will have to fight with the third version of the Peugeot 3008, which it will face from the end of 2023. A project which carries the internal code P64 and which Gilles Vidal, the new director of style of Renault, knows very well. And for good reason, he himself supervised the gestation when he was in charge of design at Peugeot. But is knowing the secrets of the competition really an asset? Not sure. On the one hand, because Gilles Vidal did not have his hands on this Renault Kadjar 2, finalized before his arrival at his new employer, on the other hand because his successor at the head of the style of the lion brand, Matthias Hossann, was instructed to rework the style of projects born under his reign. Suddenly, Peugeot keeps a few cards in hand and could, once again, benefit from a surprise effect.
A unique 1.2 TCe gasoline engine
Developed on the CMF-C platform of the new Nissan Qashqai, the Kadjar will also take over the Japanese engines and transmissions. The current 1.3 TCe mild-hybrid 12 V will be available in 140 hp (BVM6 and CVT) and 160 hp (CVT and CVT 4 x 4). The diamond SUV will nevertheless have the privilege of offering rear-wheel steering and the 1.2 TCe mild-hybrid 48V at the entry level. The catalog depriving itself of diesel, Renault will rely on hybrid technology E-Tech. In this case, it will be the “Large” version combining the new three-cylinder 1.2 TCe (HR12) and an advanced transmission to offer 200 hp in hybrid. If Renault had initially planned to use the plug-in hybrid from Mitsubishi, it has revised its copy at the end of 2020 since the Outlander will not arrive in Europe. Consequently, the engineers took out the blue of heat to develop a house system which will develop 280 ch thanks to the installation of an electric machine on the rear axle, offering in the passage a transmission 4 x 4. Except that this device does not is expected only in 2024.
