In the Deux-Sèvres department (79), radar cars driven by private drivers, officially two in number, recorded nearly 800 speeding tickets in just 12 days. These vehicles are multiplying on the roads.
Between mid-2020 and the end of 2021, the number of unmarked radar cars circulating on the roads of France will have increased from 402 to 450 and, within this fleet, the number of vehicles driven by employees of state-mandated private companies will have jumped from 40 to 223, according to official figures. The privatization of these rolling radars makes it possible in particular to increase their daily working time. The results will not be long in coming. During his back-to-school press conference, the prefect of Deux-Sèvres, Emmanuel Aubry, revealed that the privatized radar cars of his department had recorded less than 793 speeding tickets between August 16 and 28, 2021, including 64 superiors. at 20 km / h.

66 infractions detected per day
Officially, the privatized radar cars of Deux-Sèvres have been put into service to stem the increase in the number of accidents in the department. Between the 1er June and August 24, 62 bodily injuries occurred there, compared to 58 in 2019 and 49 in 2018 over the same period. The number of injured increased from 61 to 79 between 2019 and 2021, but the number of fatalities decreased from 14 to 5.
It was during their first twelve days of activity that the privatized radar cars of Deux-Sèvres achieved this “performance”, corresponding to 66 vehicles “flashed” daily. Officially, two vehicles of this type circulate in the department: a Peugeot 308 and a Skoda Octavia. The figures announced are therefore equivalent to 33 infringements recorded each day per car, enough to approach the 1,000 monthly reports for each privatized radar car.

Six PV per hour for a private radar car?
Last spring, the Ministry of the Interior indicated a monthly average of 322 PV for each of the radar cars, which were then mainly driven by members of the police. Gold, a private vehicle runs for 5:30 a.m. per day compared to only 1 hr 12 in the case of a car managed by the police or the gendarmerie. Enough to triple the number of violations noted, even if a small portion of them do not result in PVs. Last May, deputies indicated an average of 2.09 PV per hour for a privatized radar car; the figures for Deux-Sèvres bring this average to 6, if we always assume that only the two officially announced vehicles are circulating.
