Otherwise the police can catch you
Coffee helps a lot, but when a Dodge Charger Hellcat rushes past at 150+mph at 2AM, you’re probably wide awake. It happened during their late shift near the American town of Royal Oak, in the state of Michigan. They gave chase, but couldn’t keep up with the 700+ horsepower Dodge. In the end, that turned out not to be necessary.
The 6.2-liter V8 of the Hellcat wants a sip. The Redeye version can even run at full throttle for only 11 minutes before the tank is completely empty. That is even faster than a Bugatti Veyron has its (slightly larger) tank empty. Police found the 29-year-old driver pushing his car into a parking lot. The car had come to a screeching halt due to an empty fuel tank. The driver was found to be heavily intoxicated.
Police advice: check your fuel before your flight
We’d say the moral of this story is something close to ‘don’t get drunk behind the wheel’ or ‘stick to the speed’. No, the police of Detroit advises on Twitter to ‘always check your fuel gauge’. Special, because if the Dodge had had enough fuel, they wouldn’t have caught the drunk driver. Must be a cultural difference.
