Picking up waste while running
There’s a new running trend that’s also good for the environment: plogging. What it is? A Swedish running method where you pick up litter while you work on your fitness. A win win!
Plogging
The concept of ‘plogging’ comes from Sweden. They have been environmentally conscious there for some time, just like in other Scandinavian countries. Plogging stands for jogging and plocka, which is Swedish for “suit.” The nice thing about this running trend is that you can combine it with your old, trusted run. All you need is running shoes and a garbage bag to put the trash in.
Interval training and boot camp
Also nice: you can make plogging as intensive as you want. If you’re running at a fast pace instead of jogging and then stop to pick up waste, you’re actually doing interval training. Do you want to combine running with bootcamp? Then do, for example, a squat (a deep knee bend) or lunge (lunge stride) while picking up. The most important thing is that you enjoy it, that you are in motion and that nature benefits!
fartlek
Plogging is based on fartlek: a Swedish unstructured ‘speed game’. It looks like interval training, but where interval training is structured in fixed time intervals, fartlek is not. You can vary your pace from moderate to fast to calm. After your warm-up you play with your speed, as it were, without rules.
