Sport is health. The health crisis has proven it: sport is a formidable ally for the immune system and health in general. Experts advise practicing at least 30 minutes of physical exercise a day to activate blood circulation and boost your immune system. Running is therefore a natural way to fight against illnesses while improving one’s state of form… and one’s forms! To optimize the beneficial effects of sport, I also take care of my diet: diversify fruits and vegetables, favor raw products from organic farming, avoid foods that contribute to so-called “low-grade” inflammation which causes the bed of infections are all good habits to adopt in winter.
The right basic equipment
No need to go broke buying the super high-tech equipment and the full panoply of the over-equipped racer. A minimum is however necessary to practice running comfortably in winter:
- not too thin tights with thermal qualities
- a breathable and thermal long-sleeved T-shirt
- a technical sweatshirt or a thin fleece
- a windproof and waterproof jacket
- running hat or headband and running gloves
- socks that are not too thin or too low
- a headlamp.
Choose technical clothing
To face the bad weather, equip yourself with textiles that allow moisture to be evacuated (ventilation of the fabric to avoid condensation in the garment), to cut the air (windproof effect) and to insulate against the weather. moisture (impermeability). To run in the cold, certain clothes must also have thermal qualities (ability to retain body heat). Overall, we avoid cotton, which quickly soaks up water and takes a long time to dry.
Respect the principle of layers. To be warm without macerating in the humidity, the adoption of several layers of clothing is a consensus.
- The 1st layer wicks away perspiration (t-shirt or long-sleeved t-shirt).
- The 2nd layer retains the heat thanks to the creation of a small air mattress (thin fleece…).
- The 3rd layer protects against the external environment (windproof jacket, etc.).
When the temperature is cool without being very cold, two coats are sufficient. On the other hand, as soon as the weather conditions deteriorate (thermometer close to zero, rain, snow, wind, etc.), three layers provide undeniable comfort.
