What if we spread beer on our skin to get a better tan? This is the latest Tik Tok find, which according to The Independent has a big success: the “beer tanning“, and its associated tag, garnered over 200,000 views. But as often, this social media beauty trend is not a good idea. Here’s why.
On the platform, two versions compete: those who put on beer and UV protection, and those who are content to spread beer on their skin under the sun. According to the proponents of this method, the sugar and acidity of the drink would allow the skin to brown more easilywith the benefit of providing antioxidants and vitamins.
No scientific evidence
But a dermatologist interviewed by The Independent points out on the one hand that there is no scientific evidence for these claimsand that it is preferable to avoid taking unnecessary risks when it comes to exposure to the sun, remembering the danger it represents for the skin.
As a doctor who treats skin cancers, she insists on the importance of putting a protection against UV rays (sunscreen with a high SPF)which beer obviously does not provide. In conclusion, she adds that a tan is not a mark of healthy skin, but quite the opposite: “it is an indication of damage”, she points out.
