Getting started with Virtufit is simple. You go to the site Virtufit.nl, sign up, buy credits and you can get started two seconds later. This puts them one step ahead of the gym. Here you have to delve into the location, opening times and class schedules. And to be honest, many people are already giving up.
You do not have to be a sports expert for the lessons. There are eight different types of curriculum, which you can follow at different levels. Some programs focus on strength, such as V-Pump and V-Shape, others are more fitness-oriented, such as V-Step and V-Cycle.
From strength to condition
Unfortunately, I can’t follow the above classes, because I don’t have any fitness equipment at home. If you wish, you can purchase an exercise bike, bosub ball, weights or step via the site. But luckily there are still plenty of lessons left that don’t require any attributes.
Enthusiasm
I first opt for V-Dance, a dance program that relies on aerobics principles. My instructor is called Claudia, she is fun and spontaneous and knows how to get me excited with her cheerful tone to imitate the dance steps well.
Very different from those American instructional DVDs with recorded voices. There are often such perfect, pumped-up people standing in front of you that you immediately lose your heart.
“How did that go?” Claudia asks me after a series of passes. “Wow”, I call back to my screen, although of course I know she can’t hear me. Sometimes I can’t help but talk to Joris from V-Fight. “Be careful not to hit yourself in the chin,” he advises me during some kickboxing moves. I am indeed in the process of being mistaken and have to laugh out loud at his comment.
Full training
The training sessions seemed a bit short to me at first, usually they last just a little longer than half an hour. But after this I do feel like I trained well. After a V-Vibes class from Sandra, with yoga and pilates exercises, I feel all my muscles tingle and I stand proudly upright. In addition to being strenuous, it is also responsible. You can do a fitness test beforehand to test your fitness. This way you can choose a training at the level that suits you. Each workout starts with a warm-up and after all the effort you’ve put in, you’ll also get a cool-down.
excuses
Now you would think that I am jumping in front of my computer every moment of the day. But you still need a dose of perseverance. You may not have to leave the house, but you do have to move around with some furniture, change clothes and then actually start.
And then new excuses just pop up. Then it’s not that ride to the gym, but that you ate too hard or that you don’t feel like taking a shower again later.
The biggest pitfall for me is that I don’t finish the lesson. I start enthusiastically, then crave a glass of water or have to brush off my cat that jumps in my legs. I put the lesson on pause, I plop on the couch and immediately I can hardly get off. In that respect, a little social pressure in the gym is useful. In any case, you are still trying to save face there.
Keep going
All in all, I like Virtufit better than all the workout DVDs put together. There is a wide range of classes and more are being added all the time. As a result, it does not get boring so quickly.
And there is a Virtufit moment to free up every day. But it is still better to set a fixed sports day. Otherwise Virtufit is so flexible that you think every day: tomorrow I’m going to work out again!
