Carlos Tavares, managing director of the Stellantis group, took the wheel of the future electric Maserati GranTurismo Folgore for a demonstration in the streets of Rome, on the occasion of the Formula E E-Prix. 200 hp is announced for 2023.
Maserati will join Formula E in 2023, and this sporting commitment will support the electrification of its range. Its “zero emission” cars will bear the suffix Folgore. The brand’s first model to be available in a 100% electric version, as an alternative to combustion at first, will be the next GranTurismo. So on the occasion of the E-Prix de Rome 2022, which took place on April 9, the firm with the trident had the GT Folgore still slightly camouflaged do its first public laps. And it was none other than Carlos Tavares, big boss of the Stellantis group, who was driving.
Almost no more secrets for the GT Folgore
Images of the coupe on the streets of Rome give a clearer insight into its design. The car resumes the classic proportions and classy” of its predecessor with a low muzzle, a long hood, sporty curves without aggressiveness and reduced overhangs. This silhouette incorporates stylistic elements taken from the MC20 supercar, starting with longitudinal front lights. We observe that, if this Folgore variant is equipped with an open grille like a thermal model, the air intake which is in the front shield of the prototype is closed by a film. The bonnet reliefs and some other details are still hidden by camouflage elements.

The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will feature technologies from Formula E. Its three engines will together develop more than 1,200 hp. Enough to allow the car to go from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds according to Maserati. The new GT will go on sale in 2023.
It will be followed by a new GranCabrio, also offered in thermal as in electric. A Grecale Folgore is also on the program. Every Maserati will have an electric version by 2025. In 2030, the manufacturer will no longer offer any thermal engine model.
