Blood Glucose Meter for iPhone, iPod or iPad
As a diabetic, you should regularly measure your blood glucose. Picking and tracking can be quite complicated. Medisana’s GlucoDock makes it easy to keep track of your glucose readings on an iPad, iPhone or iPod. Miriam Seinstra tested the GlucoDock for HealthNet.
What is it?
With the GlucoDock, you can quickly and accurately measure your blood glucose level at any time. All data is stored directly in the Vitadock, a health app available for the iPad, iPhone or iPod. The makers call the product ‘diabetes management in a new dimension’.
How does it work?
The GlucoDock works very simply. You click the device into the charger connection of your iPhone, iPad or iPod. Then apply a drop of blood to the test strip. You insert this into the GlucoDock and within a few seconds the results are visible in the Vitadock app. The app itself tells you what to do.
It is possible to manually enter all kinds of data such as your medication and insulin or how many carbohydrates you have eaten. You can also indicate whether the measurement was taken after a sports activity or before or after a meal. In addition, there is room to indicate how you feel and you can also enter other measurements.
You can specify the values between which your blood sugar levels may fall. A value that is too high becomes a red bell, a good value a green one. The device also keeps track of how often you have been sitting correctly in percentages. Finally, you can also create graphs with all your measurements. You can email these results to yourself, your GP or diabetes nurse.
And how do you like it?
Tester Miriam is very impressed with the GlucoDock. “The app is easy to download, works very well and is graphically very beautiful. The app keeps track of everything itself, it is literally just pricking and saving,” says Miriam. However, the app occasionally crashes. “Then you have to close the app completely and restart it. Sometimes more than once.”
She also experiences the supplied lancing device as pleasant: “The blood flows out well in one go.” During a comparison of the GlucoDock with a glucose meter from another brand, there were different values from the two devices. After a second puncture, the GlucoDock reading remained constant. The other meter gave a similar reading to the GlucoDock the second time.
To continue using the GlucoDock, you must regularly order additional needles and strips. In the case of Miriam, these strips are reimbursed from the supplementary insurance.
Information
Vitadock from Medisana contains health measurement modules for iPad, iPhone and iPod. In addition to the results of the glucodock, the Vitadock can also store data from the Thermodock (temperature) and Cardiodock (blood pressure). In addition, Medisana has a TargetScale, a scale with body analysis.
The GlucoDock starter set includes a lancing aid, lancets, test strips and pouch. The lancets and test strips are also available separately. For more information, see the website.
