Train your abs
Are you tired of your belly, but do you have trouble with abdominal exercises? With the BeatBelly, a hip-looking wobbly bench, you could easily and effectively train your abs. Editor Chantal tests him.
I hate abs exercises. And then I express myself gently. When I normally train my abs, I lie on my back and stare at the ceiling. I don’t care if it’s called Pilates, XCO or just sit-ups, I’m doing something wrong. My abs let me down and let my poor back do all the work. I’m just not made for it.
What is the Beat Belly?
But then comes the BeatBelly on my way. He promises me that I can train my abs easily and effectively. Not lying on my back, which I hate so much, but sitting on a wobbly bench. Wherever you want: in front of the television, but also at work or in a class in the gym.
The BeatBelly is a low bench with a rounded bottom and a small backrest. It is not a device that you can easily slide under the sofa or fold up and put in the cupboard. He’s a little too big for that. But that’s not a bad thing, because it looks nice, so it can remain in plain sight. You can even order it in different colors of wood. Be careful with children playing in the house, because before you know it the bench will wobble over a few fingers and that does that.
Does it work?
An instructional DVD is included with the bench. I install myself for my DVD player and finish the whole program. The exercises are simple. Taking small and large steps with the feet, extending and retracting the legs. The workout seems light, but soon I feel my abs burning. Between exercises you can wiggle from left to right every time and that helps me to keep my back muscles loose, so that I don’t force my back.
I’m excited. Never in my life have I used my abs so specifically, except when I’m giggling or having to sneeze really hard. The BeatBelly works great for an ultimate beginner like me, but the more advanced athletes can also benefit from it. By leaning more back, they can make the exercises harder.
Are there any drawbacks?
Is there really nothing to moan about? Of course it is. The BeatBelly Instructor on the dvd I find a bit grumpy and not very enthusiastic, I have the feeling that I am in a penal camp. I learn the exercises by heart as quickly as possible, so that I can practice with my own music.
And, very important, the effect of such a training at home stands or falls with your perseverance. Because buying alone is not enough, you also have to train regularly with it. I’m a bit lacking in willpower, so unfortunately I haven’t seen my belly shrink yet. Sign me up for a BeatBelly class at the fitness club!
