Shape and color say more
Good question! In this section PlusOnline goes in search of answers to nagging questions. This time: how many times to poop per day is normal?
Defecate. One does it once every three days, another only twice a day. Most people think that pooping once a day is normal and if you go more or less that is not ‘normal’. But good news for anyone who deviates from this once a day: there are quite a few differences between people. And there is no weird or normal. Everyone has their own pooping rhythm.
A large proportion indeed poop once a day, but there are also plenty of people who go more often or less. Also, the frequency of defecation does not say much about health. The shape and color of your stool say much more.
Normal stools are creamy and brown in color. This can change under the influence of the diet, but also due to certain conditions. For example, do you regularly suffer from diarrhea or blood and/or mucus in your stool? Then it is better to contact your doctor. It is often something harmless, but it can also indicate a condition.
Genes also play an important role in the number of times you have to defecate. For example, research has already shown that people with irritable bowel syndrome sometimes have a mistake in the genes and this could be the explanation for their intestinal complaints.
