Homemade hydroalcoholic gel: the recipe

The stocks of hydroalcoholic gels are low and it is not easy to stock up. So, to clean your hands between two washes with soap and water (nothing better has yet been done to get rid of viruses), we offer you a little homemade gel recipe.

No need to have studied chemistry to make this hydroalcoholic gel to take with you: 3 ingredients are enough. Warning: this homemade gel will not replace the real hydroalcoholic gels usually sold in pharmacies and recommended by the ANSM. But during this period of confinement, this solution is quick to make and can quickly disinfect your hands if needed, between washes with soap and water.

The right barrier gestures

The coronavirus does not circulate on its own, it is humans, carrying the virus, who circulate and spread the virus. This is why it is important to adopt barrier gestures:

Wash your hands very regularly.
Cough or sneeze into his elbow.
Use disposable tissues.
Greet without shaking hands, avoid hugs.

Hand washing or hydro-alcoholic gel?

Hand washing should be given priority when a potable water point is available. He must be systematically done with soap, preferably liquid, respecting a minimum washing time of thirty seconds. It is necessary to rinse well and dry the hands with clean towels or towels.

The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM), recommend the use of solutions and hydro-alcoholic gels only in the absence of an available water point. Because if alcohol eliminates most of the viruses and bacteria present on the hands, it does not “wash”.

How to use it : never use gel on soiled hands or wounds. It is important to respect a friction time with the product of at least 30 seconds until the hands are dry. Because if the product is not allowed to dry sufficiently, it will reduce its effectiveness.

A homemade hydroalcoholic gel recipe

1 small empty 100 ml bottle (like those used for air travel)
30 ml of vodka
60 ml of aloe vera gel
Essential oil of tea tree and essential oil of lavender.

How to do ?

Fill 1/3 of the bottle with vodka (which will act as alcohol).
Add 16 drops of tea tree essential oil and 8 drops of lavender essential oil. Both have natural antibacterial properties and are pleasantly scented.
Supplement with aloe vera gel for hand hydration and mix well.
Instead of vodka: if you have dry or sensitive skin on your hands, you can use‘hydro-alcoholic witch hazel extract.
