Control your lifestyle
Becoming or staying slim: 40 percent of Dutch men and 60 percent of women are working on it. Yet two in five Dutch people are overweight. How do you get your appetite under healthy control?
Being overweight can be downright dangerous. Joint complaints, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and so on. It’s the harsh consequences of obesity. Of course, heredity, a thyroid disorder or the use of medicines can play a role. But in most cases, it’s just a matter of eating too much.
Eat yourself slim
A normal and above all healthy diet is the first step to a slim body. But what is normal? Someone who works hard every day uses more energy than someone who sits in front of his computer all day. The body is in balance when energy intake (food) is equal to energy expenditure. When you take in more energy than you expend, the calories build up in the form of fat.
Overweight is also related to an irregular eating pattern. People who often die, postpone eating as long as possible, resulting in a huge hunger attack. The first thing eaten in all haste is a snack that often does not fall into the healthy category. It is therefore better to eat something responsible every two to three hours. The body gets used to this and will therefore not react spastic if it does not get any food for a while. So you can eat yourself slim, as long as you choose healthy energy suppliers. Of course, that energy has to be used.
Yes: sports!
Besides healthy eating, it is necessary to exercise. When you start exercising, your body will start using the stored fat stores. To lose weight, it is necessary to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Fat gives way to muscle and even if you don’t see it right away, it’s a lot healthier. But moving does more. If you exercise regularly, your heart, lungs and brain will function better. This makes you more alert and you can better cope with the daily stresses. Sport keeps you physically and mentally fresh. Because you are more aware of your body, it also becomes easier to take good care of it.
mental strength
Eating healthy, exercising more: where do I find the time? There is always an excuse to get stuck in wrong living habits. Ultimately, responsible cooking and exercise costs you less energy than dissatisfaction with your body. A healthy lifestyle not only makes you stronger physically, you also gain strength mentally. By learning to control yourself, you gain more control over the rest of your life. This means less stress. Because when you are comfortable in your own skin, you feel more confident and you can take on the whole world.
