Every year in France, cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 200,000 deaths in France, some of which could be avoided. And one of the easiest preventative measures might be to go to bed a little earlier (not to say much later) than usual. In short, to stop being a night owl to become more morning.
A new study from Rutgers University, in the United States, has just shown that people who get up early have a faster metabolism and that they draw more fat when they are at rest than diapers. -late.
Early risers are more active during the day
For this study, researchers followed 51 obese middle-aged adults and divided them into two groups, early risers and night owls, based on their responses to a questionnaire about sleep and activity habits. They then monitored their activities for a week and tested their metabolism at rest and during moderate or high intensity exercise on a treadmill. “Early risers are also more physically active throughout the day, which may explain why they are less likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease than night owls, in whom fat can accumulate more easily” points out Prof. Steven Malin, lead author of the study and an expert in metabolism at Rutgers University.
This is not the first study to draw attention to the health risks of “night owls”. Already in 2018, a British study conducted on half a million volunteers showed that people who go to bed late had a 10% higher risk of dying early. Another study also showed that night birds tend to eat more sugar and snack more during the day.
