– If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer, adjust the contrast of the screen according to the brightness of the room, avoid fixed gaze by closing your eyes for a few seconds or looking at an object in the distance, regularly take a few steps far away of the screen.
– During sports activities, do not forget to protect your eyes: a visor, a helmet possibly, swimming goggles, protective glasses for the bicycle or the motorbike (against the sun, the wind, dust and twigs …).
– Household activities also carry risks for the eyes! Beware of misdirected sprays and splashing fries! Also pay attention to the handling of tools and small shards projected in the eyes during crafts at home.
– Do not touch your eyes without washing your hands. A simple instruction that applies to young and old and limits the risk of infections and irritation.
– Protect yourself from ultraviolet rays by wearing filter sunglasses as soon as the sun is shining. Be careful, all tinted glass is not filtering and darker glasses are not necessarily more protective. Always take advice from an optician.
– Children’s eyes are even more sensitive to the sun’s rays. Protect them with glasses specially adapted to the shape of their face, which will stay in place.
– Do not look directly at a strong light source: dazzling headlights, a strong spot, etc.
– Conversely, make sure you have good lighting for reading or writing, for example. Does your bedside lamp really allow you to read in bed without straining your eyes?
– Favor a healthy and balanced diet, especially rich in vitamin A, important for vision.
– Watch your eyesight: have it examined regularly even if everything seems to be going well: a gradual deterioration is not immediately noticeable but causes harmful tensions (the eye “forces” to see well). And definitely consult if you have glaucoma or other eye disease in the family or if you have high blood pressure or diabetes.
