These guys like a sip
Although there is hardly a more capitalistic list than the cars below, Karl Marx would leave a small tear of happiness for anyone who puts one of these models on a Dutch license plate. Not only is the BPM good for the re-asphalting of the A12, but an artist can be put to work again from the monthly fuel excise duties to decorate a roundabout. We found out what the 10 most inefficient cars of the moment are. These are cars that you can now order new through the official channels.
There are of course cars that are even thirstier than those in this list of the most inefficient cars of the moment. The 6.75-liter V8 in the Bentley Mulsanne, for example, likes 14.6 l/100 km, but that car is no longer available as new. The same applies, for example, to the old V8 models from Maserati – they had a small whirlpool in the tank. The performance models of Audi (with the 4.0-liter V8) and those of BMW (with the 4.4-liter V8) just don’t make it: they usually consume somewhere around 12 l/100 km.
Is the consumption of the 10 most fuel efficient cars correct?
No, crazy isn’t it? We are talking about the stated average consumption here. This is the consumption that was achieved in the WLTP cycle. If you’re crawling extremely slowly and constantly over a 60-way for hours on end, they might be more economical. In practice, they will probably all be even more inefficient, because most cars simply ask for this list to be given a lot of money. View the 10 most fuel-efficient cars of the moment below.
10. Bentley Bentayga Speed (13.3 l/100 km)
The fastest SUV in the world when it comes to top speed. How much faster is he than the Urus? Exactly 1 km/h – and that is of course no coincidence. The Bentayga may have the fastest top speed, the Cayenne the fastest Nürburgring time and we’re guessing that the Urus facelift will soon have the fastest 0-100 time of all Volkswagen Group SUVs.
09. Bentley Flying Spur (13.3 l/100 km)
Bentley only introduced the plug-in hybrid version of this sedan. Is that necessary? Judge for yourself. To produce 635 hp, the twelve-cylinder in built-up areas even gulps away an average of 18.6 l/100 km. For the Bentley Continental GT with the same engine, the average consumption is 12.2 l/100 km. For the average Bentley owner, it’s all change.
08. Audi R8 Spyder Performance (13.3 l/100 km)
The first naturally aspirated engine on this list, but not the last. Engines without turbos simply like (on paper) an extra sip – especially when it comes to a 5.2-liter V10 with 620 hp. Your eardrums will forever appreciate your financial sacrifice.
07. Lamborghini Huracan STO (13.9 l/100 km)
The same engine as in the Audi R8, but with 20 hp added. Although the power of this STO only goes to the rear wheels, it is less fuel efficient than the Huracán Evo with the same power. The engine software will be tuned more aggressively.
06. Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB (13.9 l/100 km)
The largest Rolls-Royce of the moment, but not even the most inefficient. The Cullinan consumes a little more due to its block box appearance. And who cares, you can sit comfortably in the back while the driver fills it up.
05. Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT (14.1 l/100 km)
For the Cayenne Turbo GT, Porsche took the well-known 4.0-liter V8 and installed new guts and a new turbo. The power grew to 630 hp. That is less than the Lamborghini Urus, but it is faster than that car – and considerably less fuel efficient. According to the specifications, this Cayenne drinks almost 1.5 liters extra every 100 kilometers. And with that it ends up on the list of the most fuel-efficient cars of the moment.
04. Ferrari 812 GTS (14.9 l/100 km)
This twelve-cylinder converts large volumes of petrol into large portions of fun and listening pleasure. The 6.5-liter V12 produces 800 horsepower without the help of turbos. The new 812 Competizione is probably even thirstier, but the numbers are not yet known. For now, this is the thirstiest Ferrari you can order.
03. Rolls-Royce Cullinan (15.0 l/100 km)
The same hefty V12 from the Phantom and Ghost, but in a car with the aerodynamics of a tower block. So enjoy a sip, as you might expect. Does the target audience mind? No, it is not. The Cullinan with 571 horsepower is the best-selling Rolls-Royce of all time. And we are talking about a history of 116 years. Incidentally, the Ghost just falls off the list of the most inefficient cars at the moment.
02. Lamborghini Aventador S (16.9 l/100 km)
He may be on the list for a while, but you have to be quick. The Aventador you see above is the Ultimae version. This is the latest version of the mighty V12. It is probably even slightly less economical than the Aventador S, but the numbers are not yet publicly known. And oh well, who cares. Even if it consumes 5 l/100 km more, the owners wouldn’t care. Although: they will have to stop very often along the highway.
01. Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport (25.2 l/100 km)
Of all type-approved Bugattis, the Pur Sport is the most fuel-efficient. The Bugatti Super Sport is probably just a bit thirstier, but Bugatti doesn’t give any consumption yet. The normal Chiron also likes 22.3 l/100 km. Of course, these are specifications from the standard test cycle. If you push the Chiron to its top speed, the 100-litre tank will be completely empty within 10 minutes.
