For a while I have been suffering from the muscle or tendon that is in front of my big toe. Strangely enough, I feel this after sleeping. The pain usually goes away within an hour or two, the rest of the day I don’t notice it. I do not sport. Do you have any idea what is causing this pain?

Behind the big toe are two important muscle tendons. These do the most work during the transition and are important for shaping your arch.
Irritated tendon
These tendons sometimes become overloaded if the foot tilts inwards too much (which is called overpronate). Very often these complaints are manifested by morning stiffness. The tendon is irritated and at night it tries to recover. When you walk on it in the morning, you have to stretch an irritated tendon, as it were. Once the tendon has warmed up properly, the symptoms will disappear.
I advise you to make an appointment with a podiatrist to find out what is causing your complaints.
Do you also have a question? Then ask one of our experts. Always go to your doctor with urgent questions, the experts are not the right person for that. They also do not diagnose. You can find the other conditions here.
