Comfort and protection
If you are going to exercise, a good bra is not an unnecessary luxury. A sports bra is more comfortable than a regular bra and prevents you from getting saggy breasts from all that wiggling.
If you exercise with a regular bra instead of a sports bra, your breasts will bounce around involuntarily; this can be quite painful. Many sporty women are bothered by this and it is also not good for your breasts. For a small number it is even a reason to stop exercising. Today, however, this is no longer an argument, because a good sports bra has been developed for every cup size.
The sports bra: ultimate protection
In addition to comfort, a good sports bra also offers protection. All that bouncing is not good for a breast that weighs between two hundred and three hundred grams on average. It puts great pressure on the breast tissue and skin structures, which can lead to damage. In the long run, it can stretch the skin and make the breasts droop. Wearing a regular bra can reduce the bounce by 38 percent. According to researchers, that is not enough to prevent sagging breasts. However, a specially made sports bra ensures that the breasts move as much as 78 percent less.
Which sports bra is right for me?
Depending on the size of your breasts, you can choose between an encapsulated sports bra or a compression sports bra:
The encapsulated bra consists of two separate cups made of non-elastic material. There are no underwires, but there is an elastic underband. This bra is preferred for women with large breasts. This bra is also ideal if you suffer from bruises on the front part of the breasts. The compression bra consists of a single flat elastic material, often with crossed straps at the back. This bra is suitable for women with small to medium breasts. The breasts are ‘pressed’ against the rib cage by this bra for movement to decrease.
Tips
- Pay attention to comfort and fit. The bra should not be so tight that you can barely breathe, but so tight that it does not slip.
- The bra should be at the same height throughout and should not creep up at the back.
- Do you quickly suffer from irritations? Then buy an encapsulated sports bra with seamless cups.
- Do not wear a bra with an underwire, hooks or zipper. These can cause injuries when falling or simply from too much friction.
- The straps should be soft and wide and should not cut into your skin.
- Opt for breathable materials and avoid fabrics that absorb sweat such as pure cotton.
- If you’re trying on a sports bra, jump or walk around a bit to feel if your breasts have proper support.
- Raise your arms above your head to make sure the elastic bottom edge doesn’t slide up. If it does, you will need a smaller size. If necessary, ask the salesperson for advice.
