Mistake number 1: keep your industrial shampoos in the bathroom
When you go to vegetable colorings, you are looking for naturalness for your hair. Vegetable coloring eliminates all chemicals. So if we want to make the hair breathe and make it benefit from the benefits of natural pigments, we play the game thoroughly: we get rid of shampoos, conditioners and other industrial hair care products purchased on the market. They are full of synthetic substances, potentially aggressive for the hair fiber. Once you’ve got your hands dirty (vegetable), you swear only by products bought in organic shops.
Mistake number 2: falling asleep during your vegetable coloring
Letting your color set doesn’t mean you have to fall asleep. We always keep an eye on our watch to make sure that the exposure time is not exceeded. We do not forget that the longer we wait, the darker the pigment. For example, if you leave a blonde color too long, the tint can turn orange.
The right reflex when you want to be blonde : rub lightly with a towel or sponge at the root, every 10 minutes, to check that the color does not turn orange.
Mistake number 3: using the wrong material
Avoid iron material, such as long-tailed combs that can oxidize. We swap them for a wooden comb. To prepare the color, glass or plastic bowls are used, especially not stainless steel.
Mistake number 4: doing your color without protecting the contour of your face
Big mistake! Before coloring, apply a greasy cream on the contour of your face and on your ears to avoid being made up like at Carnival. If the damage is done, a light exfoliation will make up for the damage by blurring the color.
Mistake number 5: color for a few white hairs
Do we have three or four gray hairs hidden in the parting that are ruining our lives? Charley Assoun, plant hair colorist, advises against doing a permanent color when you have a low percentage of white hair. A highlight treatment or shampoo based on natural pigments may be sufficient.
Error number 6: choose a single color in an organic store without mixing
Plant-based powders need to be blended to achieve a natural result and precise shade. The risk with a single color bought in store? Finding yourself with a green plant on your head. Example with ebony. “Many women make the mistake of taking an ebony pigment to camouflage white hair, but they don’t know that it tends to turn green!”, warns the colorist.
The right reflex: we do not risk playing the apprentice witches, and we ask advice from our hairdresser, plant colorist or even order a tailor-made preparation. “Vegetable coloring is a special cuisine” which cannot be improvised, recalls Charley Assoun.
Mistake number 7: opting for half-natural hair colors
The vegetable coloring must be 100% natural. To choose it well, we go to an organic shop and we take the ranges on which it is mentioned organic and / or 100% natural.
Mistake number 8: washing your hair directly after coloring
It’s simple, you risk losing all the benefits of coloring. Just after the color, we do a post-coloring care conditioner. And to be sure to fix the color, wait at least 12 hours before shampooing.
