A six-wheeled Range Rover is offered for sale by Aguttes. Made by the English craftsman Carmichael in 400 copies, this most atypical off-roader is estimated between €40,000 and €60,000.
It’s not every day that a six-wheeler comes up for sale. On the occasion of rally from Aumale to Chantilly, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April, the Aguttes house organizes an auction. Among the thirty or so lots on offer, the most unusual is this 1976 Range Rover Carmichael 6 x 4.

400 copies worldwide
Since its appearance in 1970, the Range Rover has been a commercial success with more than 1.2 million units produced. It is the pioneer of the luxury SUV segment. The copy offered for sale is atypical to say the least, since it is the work of the car preparer Carmichael. A year after the launch of the Range, this British workshop has lengthened the off-roader and added an axle to it at the request of the fire brigade. The wheelbase thus climbs from 2.74 m to almost 3 m. Carmichael later offered his transformation to individuals. At the time, the six-wheeled adventurer could be ordered in all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, like this example bearing the name “6 x 4”. A total of 400 of these Range Rovers were manufactured between 1971 and 1990.

Converted to left-hand drive
The current owner found this vehicle in England and converted it to LHD for easier use on our French roads. On the mechanical side, the Range Rover houses under its hood a 3.9 V8 instead of the 135 hp 3.5 P6 block of Rover origin. The announcement also states that the six-wheeled off-roader has lost its driveshaft between the two rear axles. A complete painting has been carried out, while the beige leather interior has not undergone any treatment. According to the odometer, the Range Rover Carmichael 6 x 4 would have covered just over 86,000 km. It is now estimated between 40,000 and 60,000 €.
