Every night when we sleep, we dream. Reminding us of this is, on the other hand, rarer. Who has not dreamed of being able to restore their dreams (only the good ones, of course) once awake? Good news: a team of Australian researchers thinks they have the recipe.
The more vitamin B6 we take, the better we remember our dreams
According to Denholm Aspy of the University of Adelaide (Australia) and his research colleagues, eating foods rich in vitamin B6 on a daily basis makes it easier to remember dreams. Having asked healthy volunteers between the ages of 27 and 28 to write down every morning for five days if they remembered their dreams when they woke up, the team found thatthere was indeed a link between taking vitamin B6 and remembering the fact that you dreamed during the night.
Among people who took 100 milligrams of vitamin B6 before bed, the proportion of people who remembered their dreams was 30% higher compared to those who did not take this vitamin. And among people who took 250 milligrams of B6, the rate was even 50% higher.
Dreams: the exact action of vitamin B6 remains unknown
So how can you increase your intake of vitamin B6? Rest assured : no need to take it in tablet form, since it is part of the composition of many foods which are also recommended for their other benefits. These are cereals, fish, red meat, certain vegetables (spinach and potatoes), certain fruits (bananas and avocados) and dairy products (milk, cheese and eggs. ).
The authors of the study do not know the exact mechanism that makes vitamin B6 promote better memorization of dreams. It can nevertheless be assumed that this is due to the fact that vitamin B6 causes the production of serotonin, which prevents the entry into REM sleep during the first hours of the night. As a result, paradoxical sleep (the most conducive to dreams) begins shortly before waking up, so that when we wake up, our dreams are still in our immediate memory.
