Suzuki is preparing the presentation of a new model for the end of the month. In all likelihood, this should be the new S-Cross. Here is what we already know about the small third-generation SUV. Electrification and all-wheel drive should always be on the menu.
Launched in 2013 and restyled in 2016, the second generation Suzuki S-Cross is nearing the end of its career.
Its replacement is imminent and should kick off a new offensive by the Japanese manufacturer in Europe, where this small crossover has a hard time facing urban SUVs signed Renault, Peugeot or Ford. Its third iteration should nevertheless benefit, like the current model, from some advantages specific to Suzuki. The first official images of the new S-Cross could reach us as early as November 25. This is in any case what suggests this invitation sent by Suzuki for a presentation in “world premiere”.
The S-Cross will become more electrified
Apart from the Across and Swace which are rebadged Toyota, and the Jimny offered only in utility, the entire European range of Suzuki is micro-hybrid. According to persistent rumors from Japan, the electrification of the next S-Cross could be more important. The lightly hybridized turbo petrol engine should see the voltage of its starter-alternator drop from 12 V to 48 V, and a simple hybrid S-Cross could make its appearance. No diesel is to be expected in the range. Like its predecessor, the Suzuki S-Cross third of the name should be able to be equipped with an all-wheel drive, a rare option in this market segment. Its dimensions a little more generous than those of European competitors (currently 4.30 m long, or 7 cm more than a Captur) are also a guarantee of livability.
A more high-tech S-Cross on the way
On the look side, the Suzuki S-Cross could clearly evolve, and notably sport a more horizontal front face in the line of the restyled Ignis and Vitara, which remains to be confirmed. The interior atmosphere should be modernized via the arrival of a larger central screen in particular, accompanied by a reduction in the number of buttons, and the small SUV will probably fill up with driving aids. Trend requires, we can also expect to discover a digital instrumentation.
