Most people prefer to retire as soon as possible, but there are also those who continue to work after their 65th birthday. Do you think that’s a good idea?
Continuing to work naturally yields extra money, but that is not the only reason that pensioners continue to work. Being among the people, making a difference and belonging are the motivations of three over-65s who in the Brabants Dagblad recently told their story. They work hard as drivers, shop assistants and independent entrepreneurs.
“I do have hobbies, I can handle them well, but they are hobbies without contact with other people. That’s why I’m so happy with this job (…)”, says former consultant and project manager Rob van Rheenen . Now he works in a shop where he has a lot of claims.

Deficiencies
According to professor Joop Schippers who conducts research into the labor market, it is a good thing that some of the over-65s want to continue working. They can, for example, fill the gaps in care and education. It is not known how many of the 3.2 million over-65s continue to work.
jostling
But not everyone is in favor of continuing to work after your 65th birthday. For example, people in the labor market think that the elderly are stealing the jobs of young people in this way. Volunteering would also be a good alternative to paid work.
