“Would you like a piece of pudding again?” This is the kind of invitation to indulge you should hear less about tea time in the mouths of waiters in tea rooms, cafes, restaurants and fast food outlets in the UK. British Health Minister Jeremy Hunt has urged restaurant chains to reduce the portion sizes of cakes served for public health purposes.
The government intends to work double in terms of prevention and fight against overweight and obesity, which has become one of the priority projects in the United Kingdom. The government no longer hesitates to talk about “obesity crisis”in view of the alarming figures on the body size of the British: two in three adults are obese or overweight. A worrying situation which risks weighing down the budget of the National Health Service, the national health system.
Smaller and less sweet cakes
Failing to be put on a dry diet, the British are therefore indirectly invited to reduce their calorie intake through the efforts of manufacturers and restaurateurs. In total, 100 large brands will be checked to verify that they are reducing the sizes of the cakes they sell to customers.
