According to the latest Barometer from the Public Health France agency on the daily sleep duration of the French, the average time spent sleeping at night has fallen below the 7-hour mark.
More than one in three French people sleep less than 6 hours per night
Average sleep time at night, 6:34 a.m. on weekdays and 7:12 a.m. on weekends, and 6:42 a.m. on weekdays and 7:26 a.m. on weekends including naps. Here is the conclusion of the Public Health France agency, which published on Tuesday March 12 its latest Barometer on Sleep time in France in its Weekly epidemiological bulletin (BEH).
To reach this conclusion, the health agency based itself on the Public Health France 2017 Barometer on sleep time, sleep debt, sleep restriction and chronic insomnia of 18-75 year olds, to of which 12,637 people aged 18-75 were interviewed. The agency is also concerned that “ the proportions of people sleeping less than 6 hours during the week increase significantly, in particular among young adults and young professionals, where they respectively reach up to 25 and 33% of the subjects questioned “.
The screens disrupt the sleep of the French
Another interesting information provided by the Barometer: chronic insomnia seems ” less important than that estimated in 2010 »And would affect 13.1% of 18-75 year olds, 16.9% of women and 9.1% of men.
Are singled out in particular the financial worries, illness, working hours and travel time, but also screens. However, we know that the use of screens just before going to bed or even, for many people, in bed, harms the quality of sleep, which is as important for health as a healthy diet and the practice of ‘regular sporting activity.
Lack of sleep can have dramatic health consequences: ” numerous epidemiological studies prove that sleeping less than 6 hours is associated with higher risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and accidents », Can we read in the BEH.
