Today no longer in the catalog, the original Fiat diesels are forcing Suzuki to recall more than 8,500 S-Cross and Vitara in France. Their NOx emissions have in fact been deemed too high by the RDW, the body responsible for the approval of vehicles in the Netherlands.
Like many of its compatriots, Suzuki has completely stopped offering diesel vehicles in France. A choice all the more logical as the manufacturer did not manufacture these engines itself. After sourcing from Renault or Peugeot, he bought them from Fiat, which has been frequently questioned in the context of the “dieselgate” scandal. But it is the Japanese brand that has found its way into the RDW collimator, the body that manages the registration of new vehicles in the Netherlands, for a problem of emissions of nitrogen oxides (Nox) too high. The RDW thus suspected the presence of a system capable of reducing the efficiency of the antipollution systems after a certain time, greater than that required for bench testing. Before testing and approving a software update offered by the brand, which eliminates this type of behavior.
8,863 vehicles recalled in France
Since last March, the manufacturer has therefore carried out an update to download this new software in all the vehicles concerned. A campaign that is not limited to the Netherlands alone: in France, 8 863 Vitara and SX4 S-Cross must also be recalled. They are obviously all equipped with a 1.6 DDiS diesel engine, and 75% of them have already been treated in France. Reprogramming the calculator only takes about fifteen minutes, and it is completely free even if most copies are no longer guaranteed. However, Suzuki could not tell us what the exact content of this update was.
