What are the risks of listeria?
Listeria causes a disease called listeriosis: it is a bacterial infection (very rare in France), which can be deadly. The bacterium responsible for the disease, Listeria monocytogenes, is naturally present in water, in soil and on certain wild and domestic animals. Listeriosis is mainly transmitted by ingesting contaminated food (cold meats, dairy products, fish, unwashed fruits and vegetables).
Symptoms of listeriosis are: digestive disorders, headaches, fever, fatigue, muscle and joint pain. Those most at risk are children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
The Rappel Conso site specifies: “People who have consumed the products mentioned above and who present fever, isolated or accompanied by headache, and body achesare invited to consult their attending physician and inform him of this consumption. The incubation period can be up to 8 weeks.
