A Peugeot 405 Mi16 is for sale for €4,999 in Portugal. This lower price than those generally observed is all the more attractive as the configuration of the car could interest collectors. However, it is not flawless.
Slowly but surely, the rating of the Peugeot 405 Mi16 is increasing, as is the case for all youngtimers long neglected and now popular now that the stars of their time have become unaffordable. That of the lion sports sedan has more than doubled in ten years and it is now becoming difficult to find one, even with a lot of miles, for less than €7,000. In Coimbra in Portugal, some 1,500 km from Paris, a 405 Mi16 that looks like a future collector’s item is for sale for €4,999.

An original and maintained 405 Mi16
According to the announcement published on PistonHeadsthis Mi16 from 1990 is completely original and has no rust spots, sleeping in a dry garage since 2001. It has a high mileage of around 225,000 km but it has recently been serviced complete with replacement of timing belt, water pump and spark plugs. All four tires are new. Some flaws are however indicated such as the absence of a headlight washer cover and a sunroof which shows signs of weakness. We note in passing that the car is equipped with these options. However, there is another element that might put off a French buyer: this is a right-hand-drive British-spec example.
The sedan at the heart of GTi
The 405 Mi16 is one of the models of Peugeot’s great era in terms of sports cars. Under its hood is indeed a four-cylinder 1.9 derived from that of the 205 GTi, but equipped with 16 valves to develop a power of 160 hp, transmitted to the front wheels. The car’s dynamic behavior was praised by the press at the time, praise inversely proportional to the criticism leveled at its finish. Sportiness came first, which the red tint of this copy highlights, allowing the car to stand out from the countless white or gray 405s leaving the factory, Mi16 included.
