Last year, Loïc became the father of a little boy for the first time: he tells us how his paternity leave went and reveals the benefits for him and his baby.
- After the birth of Léon, Loïc benefited from paternity leave for 28 days. He was able to take care of his son for a month and a half, because he was off work after suffering a burnout.
- During this break, the twenty-something was able to learn how to become a father and get closer to his little boy.
- The paternity leave also made it possible to improve his lifestyle and to avoid certain tensions in his couple.
“I always wanted to be a father”, says Loïc, a 26-year-old man. His wish came true in 2022. With his partner, they welcomed a little boy, named Léon, who is now eight months old. After the birth of the infant, the Lyonnais was directly able to enjoy and take care of his son for “almost a month and three weeks”. “Before Léon’s arrival, I had a burnout, so I was off work for about two weeks. Then I took paternity leave for 28 days. Even before having a child , I knew I was going to take it”, details the young dad, who has a full-time job and is a filmmaker in his spare time.
“I wondered how one becomes a father, because the bond with mine is chaotic”
At the start of this period during which he chose to put his career on hold, Loïc needed a little time to adapt. “Paternity leave was quite tiring because I was already physically and mentally broken due to my burnout. When Léon showed up, it was complicated, because I was no longer just a husband. wondering how one becomes a father because the bond with mine is chaotic. At times, I broke down”, he says while taking a walk with his son who is installed in a baby sling.
After a few days, the twenty-something began to get used to his new life. “After giving birth, I felt a bit apart because my partner was breastfeeding and naturally, from the start, had a stronger relationship with Léon. I was afraid of not being close to him or of not having my place. “But as we spent time with him, we laughed more and more and he hugged me more. This paternity leave allowed me to forge a strong bond and to be an accomplice with my son.” underlines the Lyonnais.
Paternity leave: “we shared the household chores, which reduced certain tensions”
This break of a month and a half was also beneficial for his couple. “We shared the household chores, which reduced some tensions and allowed my partner to rest and recover from childbirth”, says the Lyonnais. He also said that the arrival of his little boy has helped him to have a healthy lifestyle. “Before I was a heavy sleeper. Now my rhythm is set to that of Leon, so I get up much earlier.”
Like many parents, Loïc’s return to work has been difficult. “I missed Léon! I used to be with him all the time. When I come home in the evening, I feel like I’ve missed a lot of things, because in a few hours he evolves a lot.”
