A new update to Windows 11 brings refreshed emoji. With that, Clippy also returns to the operating system, the new version of the paperclip emoji takes the form of the former Office mascot.
The most striking change is that the faces and icons are no longer surrounded by black borders. This gives them a more playful and friendly appearance. The emoji appear when you press the Windows key and . (dot) press. The emoji panel will open and from here you can select them for use in word processors, social media, et cetera.
Microsoft announced the emoji makeover earlier this year. At the time, there was also talk of real 3D emoji, but now it is clear that it is not to Windows 11 come. The company does want to integrate them into other Microsoft services such as Teams and Skype. It is not yet known when that will be.
Windows Update
The new faces come as Windows Update on the operating system. Check whether it is your PC’s turn under Settings, Windows Update. They will not be available for Windows 10 by the way.
