German Willibald Schmid unveils Elantrie, an electrical conversion company that offers a first example with the ancient Lada Niva. The Russian 4 x 4, however, retains certain elements of its combustion engine. The transformation costs € 2,800.
Now baptized Lada Niva Legend in Russia, the antique 4 x 4 is converted to the electricity fairy by the small German company Elantrie. Created by the German Willibald Schmid, it indeed offers the transformation of a thermal Lada Niva into a 100% electric model.
The conversion makes it possible to replace the greedy 1.7 petrol 83 hp with an electric motor of similar power displaying 65 kW, or 88 hp. On the other hand, the accelerations should be much more acceptable than those of the ancient atmospheric block of Niva! The 30 kWh battery would allow a range of only 100 km, against around 150 km for the 27 kWh battery of the Logan 2, also converted by the German company.
A conversion to electric for 2,800 €
Converting a Niva into a small electric 4 x 4 costs “only” 2,800 €, a fairly attractive price for retrofit. And for good reason: the combustion engine is not completely removed from the car. Only the cylinder head, pistons and connecting rods are removed. The electric motor is then installed on the block and connected to the crankshaft via belt or chain transmission. The battery is positioned at the location of the fuel tank, while the old neck of the tank is replaced by a connector for recharging. Elantrie specifies that a 220 V outlet is placed in the trunk to recharge the battery.
