Ineos has started road tests of the Grenadier pickup variant. This utility version of the all-terrain is expected in 2023. It will be produced in the Smart factory in France, like the standard Grenadier announced for next year.
When the chemicals group Ineos presented its automotive project with the announcement of the Grenadier all-terrain vehicle in 2020, it was already planned that it would be available as a pick-up shortly after the standard model was put on the market. This is confirmed today, a prototype of this utility variant having been surprised in photos during a test session in Spain.

Double cab and extended wheelbase
The vehicle in the picture does not yet have a tipper and therefore reveals the rear part of its chassis. This is a double cab pickup. The body has been cut just behind the rear doors and a glass partition separates the passenger compartment from the tipper location. We notice an elongated wheelbase compared to that of the original 4×4. If we trust these clichés, the cargo space should not be among the longest in the segment, which was already the case of the Land Rover Defender pick-up from which the Grenadier is inspired. “Old-fashioned” franchisers with ladder frames and rigid axles like the Grenadier are becoming scarce and the Ineos pick-up should have the Jeep Gladiator as its main competitor.
The SUV in 2022, the pick-up in 2023?
The Ineos Grenadier will be offered with a choice of a 285 hp six-cylinder turbo petrol or a 249 hp turbo diesel “in-line six”, two original BMW engines associated with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission and three locking differentials (mechanical in the center, electronic in the front and rear). The pick-up could only be offered with the diesel fuel engine and have some specificities with regard to its transmission and driving modes, which remains to be confirmed. In addition to the dumpster model, the Grenadier will be offered in a “touring” version as well as in a closed utility vehicle with five or two seats. A seven-seater variant is being considered for later. The Ineos Grenadier must be produced in France, in the former Smart factory in Hambach in Moselle. The first deliveries are scheduled for July 2022.
