In the wake of the 100% electric SUV bZ4X which will be released this summer, Toyota will complete its offer in the D segment by 2025 with a family sedan that is also fully watted: the bZ5. This model, which will cross swords with the Volkswagen Aero B and Kia EV6, has just been flushed out in China.
Toyota is once again reviewing its family sedan strategy. After the Avensis retired in 2018, replaced by the “big” Camry (4.89 m) more cut out for the United States and taxi drivers, the Japanese brand will offer the bZ5 in Europe by 2024-2025. The trade name, filed by the firm in October 2020, indicates that it will be a D-segment family sedan joining the Beyond Zero family of 100% electric vehicles. The car has just been flushed out in China, where it will first be marketed. Under the black film supposed to erase a little the perception of its lines, the Toyota bZ5 has a format of 4.73 m, a length close to that of the Avensis, a width of 1.84 m, a height of 1, 48 m, and it will rest on a wheelbase of 2.88 m. The sedan will be the rival of the Kia EV6 and the future Volkswagen Aero B, a model which, in the range of the German manufacturer, will take over from the Passat. Unsurprisingly and as the Japanese brand has accustomed us, the Toyota bZ5 will take up the lines of the bZ SDN concept car unveiled in December 2021 at the same time as ten other new electric vehicles.

Toyota bZ5: a sedan a bit SUV?
In tune with the times, the Toyota bZ5 will not put all its eggs in one basket. In fact, it will not rely solely on a silhouette of a traditional family sedan, which no longer has the wind in its sails. The car will take on its own some adventurer attire. The black-tinted lower parts of the body bear witness to this. A cosmetic trend that can be found on models such as the Citroën C5 X or the future Peugeot 408. In addition to an SUV look, the Toyota bZ5 will also have a sporty look on a necessarily very aerodynamic silhouette.
The sedan is based on the e-TNGA technical platform, specifically developed for electric vehicles. For this purpose, a large battery will be housed in the floor between the axles. This architecture offers great flexibility with a choice of a single electric motor positioned at the front or a pair of electric machines and, in this case, the benefit of all-wheel drive. Thus, depending on the version, the Toyota bZ5 will be able to provide a power of 150 kW, i.e. the equivalent of 204 hp in the traction version, or a cumulative cavalry of 230 kW (i.e. 313 hp) thanks to the 80 kW reinforcement ( i.e. 109 hp more) on the rear axle. As for the autonomy of the Toyota bZ5, it would reach 450 km.
